Dr. Fergus Law

Dr Fergus Law is a Consultant Psychiatrist who is Psychiatric Lead for PsychInsight (https://psychinsight.co.uk/) and has degrees in both psychology and medicine. He qualified in medicine in 1985 and has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in substance misuse since 2001 and was employed in the British NHS and NHS commissioned services as a Consultant until 2023. Since then, he has entered private practice with PsychInsight, offering specialised psychiatric evaluation and assessment services for people navigating substance misuse and mental health challenges. In 2016, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for his contribution to psychiatry in the UK. He is well known in the addiction field in the UK for his innovative protocols and care pathways, which have been adopted by many NHS and non-NHS addiction providers. Over the years, he has sat on several national expert groups advising on treatment guidance, including the National Mental Health Intelligence Network Expert Reference Group on Dual Diagnosis. His interests are innovative techniques for detoxification and sustaining recovery, including medications, implants, electrostimulation and psychosocial interventions. He is a regular speaker at National Conferences and Training Events in addiction and psychopharmacology, has also been a peer reviewer and associate editor for several academic journals and has acted as a Trustee for three addiction and trauma charities. He has published 20 peer reviewed original research papers, 6 book chapters and is a co-author of the well-known Samurai approach to opiate detoxification, which is soon to be published as a workbook called ‘Your path to freedom: the Samurai approach to detoxing from opiates for you, your family and your professionals’.
